The Internet of Things

WHAT IS INTERNET OF THINGS / IOT

According to WiKipedia: "The Internet of things is the extension of Internet connectivity into physical devices and everyday objects. Embedded with electronics, Internet connectivity, and other forms of hardware, these devices can communicate and interact with others over the Internet, and they can be remotely monitored and controlled." Anything that can be electronic in your life can be IoT.

WHY DO I NEED AN IOT

IoT connects anything that can be electronics to a central cloud. This helps in a lot of ways in management, monitoring and more. Familiar with smart home? Or those fancy security system that controls who can get in where? Those are example of IoT, it connects different devices to a central management system.

If you are a commerce company of any type, you will have products, lots of them. It might work fine with papers and pen, but why not save yourself the trouble with IoT? IoT manages your products, tracks it location in your wearhouse, it's full information, expiry dates and stuff. Let's you instantly know which to move and where, better yet, it can move them for you!

IoT for moving objects? Imagine you are a logistic company with hundreds of trucks going around everyday. How do you find out exactly where the truck is, who's driving it and what is it doing at any one time? Sure, you could call the driver or check the paper, but how do you know that is accurate? IoT can help with that, like Uber with phones, you can install an electronic device in the truck with all the information plus current location via GPS. No WiFi you said? No worries, we can use SIM card or satellite uplink to connect your trucks.

HOW DO I GET IOT

First you need dedicated servers, lots of them. IoT uses a lot of data storage and processing, so getting some good servers are important. Once you have your servers, you have to set them up to connect with your devices. There are lots of tutorials out there, but we have dozens of dedicated servers around the world ready to host your IoT network.

Then you need to have the devices installed. Every project has their own requirement, it is usually needed to create your own electronic devices. Fortunately for you, half of our employees are Electric Engineers that can build an entire computer from scratch.

Once you have the servers and the devices ready, all you have to do is to connect them and make sure it is secure. It would be embarrassed if your central control system got hacked. At Imperial Anthonian, we setup strict firewall policy, HTTPS TLS/SSL and encryptions to keep your IoT connected and secure.
